I am trying to find a birthday present for my husband. He has multiple orthopedic problems. He has had a disc surgery on his lower back and currently has several bad discs in his neck that the insurance won’t cover surgery for yet. And he also has two metal hips. He currently suffers from near constant tension headaches that often turn into migraines (about monthly). Also, he spends alot of time on the computer; so, he is often in a chair that would probably work well for the Shiatsu chair cushion.

So, I am wondering, which would make a better gift – the Shiatsu pillow or the chair cushion? I am not very clear on how exactly the pillow works; I am more familiar with the chair cushion since our local drugstore has one on display.

So, I have a few questions.

The product description for the shiatsu pillow says it massages neck, back, and shoulders. Based on this, it seems it may have an advantage over the chair cushion. Is this true? How do the two compare on this?

Secondly, I’m assuming the pillow might be a little less convenient for use in a computer chair – i.e. it wouldn’t stay in place as well. Is this true?

Overall, which would you recommend? And what are some pros and cons of each?

I’ve used these kinds of products in the past. While they are fun for a few days they really don’t provide much pain relief, and ended up being more of an inconvenience than anything else. Personally, I would prefer a gift certificate for a professional massage therapist. They are trained in anatomy and physiology and can target your problem areas without causing further damage. You might also consider a new ergonomic desk chair or other ways to improve posture while sitting at the desk. Make sure that the monitor is the proper distance so that he doesn’t crane his neck forward straining to see the monitor, and that his keyboard is the proper height to prevent hunching of the shoulders. Another thing that helped me at the desk was a phone headset. If he spends a lot of time on the phone at work, a headset is invaluable.

I haven’t tried the 700H ‘total coverage’ but it does sound very good.

the 600H is spot on.

the 500H is OK, the shoulder massage isn’t very strong.

I just got a gently used Avent from craigslist. There are a few parts that were missing which I didn’t know about until I got home. It was missing the let-down massage cushions which was a huge bonus in getting this breast pump. Also the silicone diaphragm for the electric part. It has a diaphragm for the manual setting if I choose to use it. I’m not sure if that diaphragm would work when I’m using the machine electronically. Also since it has been use do you know if I should replace the tubing or can it be cleaned to use it. I looked on Baby R Us and they have shells which I don’t know if they are the same as the let-down cushions. Please help!! Thank you

I have this website I know of that you can order extra parts for your breast pumps (Medela and the Avent). I saw they have the diaphragms under the "Avent Breast Feeding Accessories" heading.

I work in retail, so I normally buy him 2 or 3 nice outfits for Christmas.

However, he has so much by now, in the line of clothing, that he just doesn’t need anything else.

Last year I bought him a really nice watch and a pocket watch, just for the design.

His birthday is the week before Christmas, and I already bought him a
4g ipod,since his mp player isn’t that great.

I already have a massage table and a massage chair that I use to do his massage, and which we use to do each others massage on- but was thinking it might be nice to get him one of shiatsu massaging cushions. I always get him about 3 or 4 things so I’m not sure what else to choose.

I’m kind of out of ideas.

Any ideas? What are your thoughts?

laroy718- I used to make him things, but I ran out of ideas. *I wove him a sort of throw blanket, with a winter’s scene. * I made him a quilt with a raised design of he and I snuggled up on the couch under candle light, with our pets. *I’ve made him candles, and a cross stitch of a love poem from the bible. I’ve kind of just run out of crafty ideas.
We have pets already. The only reason why we have so much ’stuff’ from one another, is that we’ve been together for so many years. We’ve been dating for almost 13 years, and we just moved in together 2 years ago. We don’t plan on every breaking up. We both feel like we are each other’s destiny.
We’ve been talking about wedding plans off and on for the past 2 or 3 years. It never seems to be the "right" time. One of us is always kind of procrastinating. I was thinking of doing something with an "I’m planning on spending forever with you" type theme, but I don’t have any ideas on what to do or how to do it. That’s the thing.
I’d like to get something that will bring us closer together. You know, after 12 and 3/4 years, we need fun stuff to do *together* that will keep us from getting bored. At least I think that would help. I can’t afford a Nintendo Wii, or that might be something fun for us to do. I thought of those sex playing card or games, but neither one of us is "kinky". So that would probably always just sit there. It would be nice to have something fun to do together any old time, besides the same old Saturday night out to dinner.

Wow! What a lucky guy… massages! Anywho, if you run out of ideas there is always cologne which I enjoy. You could always get him something for his car like a Ipod compatible CD/MP3/DVD deck, Sub woofers,etc… Keep in mind most guys like electronics so you could get him a portable DVD player, Nice Electric Razor or something like that. And finally if he is into any sports/events/Concerts you could buy tickets to them.

Don’t be silly, it’s a scam ..

I have received a swivel chair, but it is too low to be used at my desk… I don’t want to put a cushion on it because it is a massaging and heating one lol… Is there a way to raise this without it looking entirely ugly?

It would help to see the chair. I dont believe that part controls the height of the chair. Typically it is a gas cylinder with either a leaver under the seat or piece of the seat.

There are chairs that you spin to adjust height but considering your chair is massaging and heating, i would assume it is raised and lowered with the gas cylinder.

If the gas cylinder is not working it may not be making a good connection. (when you pull the lever it pushes a button on the top of the gas cylinder which causes it to raise/lower) If you put the chair together yourself I would make sure that the gas cylinder is pushed all the way into the under chair bracket. Otherwise contact the manufacturer and they should send you the replacement part.

Mom- I think that’s a great idea! That’s what I was thinking until I read it. I also think you should get her some bath salts, foot rubs, and lotion:)
Aunt- I think that you should get her a gift basket as well (it seems I agree with everything), but make sure it doesn’t have anything that won’t last long (spoiling wise)!
Grandparents- Grandmother- I think that you should get her a pretty stationary set, with pens, pretty paper and envelopes…. Grandfather- I think that you should get your Grandfather some magazines, like Sports Illustrated, also a Farmers Almanac!

Can you use it at home other than in a car?

i would have thought that it would be a great gift for any one

I got it at a garage sale and I looked in the back and it has vibrating motors for massages and a phone built into the center cushion. The only problem is that i need some kind of AC adapter that plugs into two round connectors. Can anyone help me?

Find the phone number to Sealy and ask them. You may be able to purchase the power cord through their customer service however you will need to know the model number of the furniture to be sure you get the correct cord. Their probably is a tag somewhere on the couch with this information.
